                Macbeth by William Shakespeare
The Witches
     Now o'er the one half-world
Nature seems dead, and wicked dreams abuse the curtain'd sleep;
now witchcraft celebrates pale Hecate's offerings;
And wither'd murder, alarum'd by his sentinel, the wolf,
Whose howl's his watch, thus with his stealthy pace,
With Tarquin's ravishing strides, towards his design
Moves like a ghost –
(Macbeth) Act 2, Sc 1

          Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s darkest tales, so full of evil that it is considered bad luck to even breathe its name. With Aboriginal instruments designed to ward off malevolent spirits and Balinese Witch’s mask that carry an ancient curse, The Long Overdue Theatre Company incorporate concepts of evil from around the globe into the telling of this timeless tale.
          When this show hits the road it won’t just be the Weird Sisters saying...
‘Something wicked, this way comes…’

     A large proportion of our audience are GCSE or A-Level students and this production has been designed with them in mind. We've done everything we can to correct the misconception that Shakespeare is boring; it’s only boring if it doesn’t make sense…
  • A wonderful cinematic underscore gives the audience an aural guide to the emotional undercurrents of the play.
  • DVD based characters and apparitions appear to Macbeth, terrifying and exhilarating him in equal measure, blending together live and pre-recorded action with astonishing fluidity.
  • Video projections bring the off-stage action to life and illuminate and illustrate the major soliloquies.
  • Bold blocks of colour and stylized lighting is used to hint at unspoken loyalties and possible betrayals.
     From the dynamic opening to the shocking and tragic finale, this show grips the audience and drags them along with Macbeth towards his destruction.

"...the Zulu section was wicked!"

"...wild opening, and then just got better and better."
"All my year 9s, 10s and 11s were gob-smacked."

"Stunning. The blood was great."

Wicked Witches

Shakespeare
at his best.

     There is a huge amount of free educational support
surrounding the show designed to encourage schools to attend

Publicity :  We provide loads of promotional material that is designed to encourage school groups to attend the show. These include : Over-printed flyers and posters, CD-ROMs featuring trailers and music clips from many our productions and even sample Teacher’s Packs. All of this support is provided at no extra cost to the venue and has proven to be an invaluable tool when marketing to schools and colleges.

Q&A :  A post show Q&A session allows the audience to ask questions about the show while it is still fresh in their minds. This invigorating and lively discussion really helps students to engage with the text; it also keeps the cast and crew on their toes!

Teacher's Packs :  We provide each school with a Teacher's Pack containing lesson plans, a glossary of theatre terms and ideas for follow up work plus much, much more. All our packs are authored by our Education Officer, Claire Nias, who is also Head of English at a local secondary school.
