Long Overdue's production of Accidental Death is as funny and as slick as they come.
Right from the outset the action is perfectly framed and decorated with a '70s cop-show' dressing.
The wah-wah guitar, bad facial hair and terrible dress sense all make this production even funnier than usual. ** If you've never seen Accidental Death before then you have definitely been missing out. ** Written by Dario Fo (originally in Italian) in the 1960's it is influenced by, and partly based upon the true story of a suspect who fell to his death from a 4th floor police window during his interrogation. The subsequant hearing ruled that the suspect's death was '...accidental. Bit ambiguous, you see?'. Dario Fo places a forward in the script suggesting that future performers update the script to keep the satire as sharp as possible, and this production is no exception. Long Overdue first performed Accidental Death in 2001 and since then have always updated the script everytime it goes on the road...just to keep the satire as sharp as a 'Gordon Brown pen' in a 'Tony Blair back'. Once again, if you've never seen this show before GO NOW! ...or when it's at your local venue. It would be silly just turning up on the off chance that it's on... ...after all, we'll probably be in the pub |
